Overview

Learner Happiness provides a learner happiness survey service for secondary schools, colleges, and sixth forms in the UK. Our survey requires no login and protects student privacy through anonymisation. The purpose of the survey is to help schools understand and improve the overall happiness and wellbeing of their learners.

What We Collect

Survey responses including:

• Anonymous responses to learner happiness questions (adapted yearly based on advice from our advisors, teachers, and our Learner Advisory Board)

• Year group/age information for analysis purposes

• Gender identity (optional - students can skip or select "prefer not to say")

• School name (for generating school-specific reports)

What we do NOT collect:

• Student names or contact details

• IP addresses or device identifiers

• Free-text fields where identifying information could be entered

• Any information that directly identifies individual students

How We Protect Privacy

• All data is immediately anonymised upon collection

• Results are only reported for groups of 10+ students to prevent identification

• Individual student responses cannot be traced back to specific individuals

• No login or registration required

• Survey platform (QuestionPro) is ISO 27001:2022 certified and GDPR compliant

What We Do With the Data

We provide each school with an anonymised, impactful insight report based on learner responses.

We use anonymised and aggregated data to:

• Benchmark learner happiness trends across schools and colleges

• Track changes over time (longitudinal analysis)

• Contribute to wider research, including in collaboration with universities (such as the London School of Economics) and charities, unless stated otherwise in individual data sharing agreements with your institution

We never name or identify a school in any external publication without explicit written consent.

Schools may opt out of data sharing with the London School of Economics by specifying this in their service agreement.

Legal Basis

We process this information under legitimate interests for educational research purposes that help improve educational outcomes and student wellbeing.

Data Retention

Learner Happiness retains anonymised survey data for 7 years to support longitudinal research and benchmarking. After 7 years, data is securely deleted from all systems.

Schools may request deletion of their data at any time, and we will comply within 30 days.
